Ruben Amaro Jr.: Ambassador
Ruben is a longtime member of the Phillies organization and was a teammate and friend of Darren’s in 1993 when the Phillies were National League Champions. His father, Ruben Sr., was a former Phillies infielder and 1st base coach. The Amaro’s along with the Leiter’s and the Bedrosian’s are the only father-son combinations to play for the Phillies.
Following his final season as a player in 1998, he joined the Phillies’ front office as Assistant General Manager for 10 years. He worked alongside general managers Ed Wade (1999-2005) and Hall of Famer Pat Gillick (2006-08) as the club ended a 14-year playoff drought in 2007 and won the 2008 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ruben served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Philadelphia Phillies for parts of seven seasons from November 2008-September 2015. During his tenure as GM, his clubs won three consecutive National League East titles (2009-11) and were NL champions in 2009.
